Couples
"Are you in a relationship?" The question shows up the assumption and central importance of couple relationships in our lives.
Many other kinds of relationship (than being a couple) are very important but we don't think the question is about them. The lasting, significant, emotional attachment of two adults takes the spotlight along with its potential for love, sex, home and family-making. And of course the risk that the couple won't stay together after all.
Everyone knows it's not as simple as falling in love or lust and then everyone will live happily ever after. But privately we still tend to think simplistically - and everywhere we look we read - how being in a (couple) relationship is just about love and sex. Of course sex is an important biological and personal thing.
But RU is here to balance the picture. RU talks as much about all the other ways (than sex) that we relate when we are a couple. They all come under a broader heading of "love". RU promotes all the other kinds of relationship that make life lively and rich. RU is both about flourishing relationships, and also about helping troubled relationships.
So we want to start by just reminding you of the other things (than sex) that happen when (couple or of any kind of) close relationships work well - click here for some Relational needs. Then you'll be ready for How to meet them.
Here's some ideas for how to enjoy any seasonal get together with your family and in-laws.
