SCORE your family

There are loads of scales used in research and by professionals to rate how bad your trouble and disorders are - and to prove when they've got better. But they're almost all about troubles of individuals!
SCORE is a specially developed "Index of Family Function and Change". It is about relationships. It is a short set of 15 questions for family members to rate on a five point scale. It's been thoroughly researched and is mainly used for "before" and "after" family therapy. There are not yet any "average family" scores for you to compare your family with. But how about using this to get an idea of the key things that show if your family is working well or not so well?
You can just use the list below, or download the whole form (with other things in it) if you want to print it out to look at it more carefully and follow the validated actual scoring system. Download it from this page.
When you've been for help, or worked through some of the ideas on this website, then you could see if it's helped you change by SCOREing yourselves again after a few weeks or months!
The questions fall under three main factors - Strengths and adaptability; Overwhelmed by difficulties; and Disrupted communication. You are asking yourself how well each statement describes your family - very well, well, partly, not well, not at all.
It's up to you to decide who you are calling "your family". Usually it would be those you live with. But that could be just you as a couple. Or you could try it out on other sections of your family - maybe you and your in-laws, or your separated parents!
The three headings also roughly match RU's main menu options like this: 1. is about how to Flourish, 2. is about Trouble, and 3. is about Talk. So SCORE might help you choose the right section of RU for what you want.
